Publishing companies that are members of Brazilian Publishers are in the list of Best Books for Children 2018
This week, Revista Crescer, one of the most famous Brazilian magazines for parents, released its list of Best Books for Children published in 2018. Nine titles in such list were published by companies that are members of Brazilian Publishers – an industry project fostering exports of Brazilian editorial content through a partnership between the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). In this 14th edition, the best books were chosen by 42 members of the jury responsible for the critical reading and by a group of ordinary readers, which picked one title.
Among the selected titles from members of Brazilian Publishers are: “Amoras” (Blackberries) (Emicida), “Enreduana” (Enreduana) (Roger Mello, illustrations by Mariana Massarani) and “Apesar de tudo” (In spite of it all) (Dipacho), published by Companhia das Letrinhas; “Casa de passarinho” (Birdhouse) (Ana Rosa Costa, illustrations by Odilon Moraes), “Só de brincadeira” (Child’s Play) (Leo Cunha, illustrations by Anna Cunha), “Um livro pra gente morar” (A book for us to live in) (selection and organization by Silvia Oberg, illustrations by Daniel Cabral) and “Bichos da noite” (Night Animals) (Mariana Ianelli, illustrations by Odilon Moraes), published by Editora Positivo; “O monstro das cores” (The Color Monster) (Anna Llenas), released by Editora Aletria; and “Se eu abrir esta porta agora…” (If I open this door now…)(Alexandre Rampazo), released by SESI-SP Editora.
Besides being part of the list, writer and illustrator Alexandre Rampazo also received from Revista Crescer the Monteiro Lobato Award for Children’s Book for his two books released last year, one of which published by SESI-SP Editora. “I see literature in a very specific way. I think reading is the most honest form of developing empathy. It gives you the chance of putting yourself in someone’s shoes, of seeing yourself through someone else’s eyes, of becoming someone else, as Fernando Pessoa would say. You will be the other person, get into the head of a character, see life from someone else’s perspective… it’s really an empathy-developing exercise”, states Alexandre.
The publishing company was created in 2011 aiming at providing the society with books that help readers to expand their knowledge about literature and about the world in general. So far, SESI-SP Editora collections include reference books and titles addressing cultural production, professional stimulation, reading promotion, memories, society and comics. Its catalog has over 400 titles, many of which winners of awards from institutions renowned in their respective fields of action, such as Jabuti Awards, FNLIJ Highly Recommended Seal, HQ Mix Award, among others.
