The American readers who follow the saga of Monica and Friends can already be satisfied. The foreign version of “Turma da Mônica Jovem”, which presents the story of the friends during adolescence, will be published in the US by the publishing house Papercutz under the title “Monica Adventures”.
Turma da Mônica (Monica and Friends) is a product of Mauricio de Sousa Produções, which is part of the Brazilian Publishers, an industry project fostering exports of Brazilian editorial content through a partnership between the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil ).
“I always wanted to show our comic book work in the United States, from where came great publications that inspired me at the beginning of my career in Brazil. And we have, in this production, the Brazilian seasoning that will interest American readers a lot”, says Mauricio de Sousa.
“This content has universal appeal and fulfills a need that is not being met today”, says Terry Nantier, editor at Papercutz. “That is why we are so excited about the potential here in the US”, he adds.
“Monica Adventures” begins with Monica, Maggy, Smudge, and J-Five enjoying the beach vacation until Monica’s ex-boyfriend Tony appears. With the beginning of classes, J-Five finds new ways to impress Monica and keep Tony away while the four friends look for a way to make enough money to watch a movie together.
As in life, the characters have grown and acquired new characteristics to their personalities. Smudge continues being the friend and right arm of the J-Five and loves to practice sports. Maggy fits perfectly into the role of fitness fan, taking care of health, caring about food, practicing sports and remaining passionate about cats. J-Five, on the other hand, is an intelligent, caring young man who wants to change the world while his passion, Monica, is the romantic leader, empowered and recognized as the leader of the group.
