Jabuti Awards extends the registration deadline for its 62nd edition

Jabuti Awards

The Jabuti, the most important book award in Brazil, extended the entry deadline for its current edition. Now international publishers that have published books written by Brazilian authors, whether born in Brazil, naturalized or foreigners who are permanent residents in the country, may submit entries until May 29th to compete in the “Brazilian Book Published Abroad” category. This is the 62nd edition, which will have its awards ceremony in September, in the city of São Paulo. Click here to submit your entry form.

The international category of the award was created in 2017 as part of the efforts of Brazilian Publishers – an industry project developed as a partnership between CBL and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) – to foster exports of Brazilian editorial content.

In 2019, Scottish publishing house Charco Press was the winner in the international category. The publisher was awarded the prize for the publication of “A Resistência” (Resistance), a book by Julián Fuks, released in Brazil by Companhia das Letras.

Fernanda Dantas, International Affairs Manager of CBL and Manager of Brazilian Publishers, explains the purpose of the international category of the Jabuti Awards: disseminate Brazilian literature worldwide. “Honoring international publishers who bet on our literary production is a way of increasing the access of foreign readers to Brazilian books. The Jabuti is a traditional award and we want it to be a thermometer not only of the Brazilian, but also of the global market”, she points out.
