The publishing house Companhia das Letras has just released “Os Contos” (The Tales), the largest collection of tales written by one of the greatest writers in current Brazilian literature: Lygia Fagundes Telles. The author had her books published in more than 15 countries, such as Poland, Chile, China, France, Italy, Serbia, and Czech Republic, among others.
“We consider ‘Os Contos’ (The Tales) a definitive and historical edition. Lygia has a very large production and readers who wish to get to know her work can start with this title. It has a beautiful graphic design and is a tribute to one of the greatest living Brazilian writers”, says Júlia Bussius, editor of Companhia das Letras, which is part of the Brazilian Publishers, an industry project fostering exports of Brazilian editorial content through a partnership between the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
“Os Contos” (The Tales) is the most complete anthology of the author and brings texts from several books published abroad, such as “Antes do Baile Verde” (Before the Green Ball) (1970), title published in France, Portugal and the Czech republic; the book “Seminário dos Ratos” (Seminary of the Rats) (1977), which was published in the United States and in the Czech republic; “A Estrutura da Bolha de Sabão” (The Structure of the Soap Bubble) (1991), which was released in Portugal and Germany; the book “A Noite Escura e Mais Eu” (The Dark Night and Me) (1995), published in France and Portugal, “Invenção e Memória” (Invention and Memory) (2000), and “Um Coração Ardente” (A Burning Heart) (2012).
During her career, Lygia was awarded with several awards, such as the Camões Award (2005), the Jabuti Award (1963, 1974, 1995, 1980, 2000), APCA – Associação Paulista dos Críticos de Arte de São Paulo (1974, 1980, 2000), among others.
