The São Paulo Book Fair will take place from August 3rd to 12th, at Anhembi Convention Center, and is organized by the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL), with the support of Brazilian Publishers, a project to foster exports of Brazilian editorial content through a partnership between the CBL and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
The Sail Publishing’s CEO, Iman Ben Chaibah, visits Brazil for the first time to participate in the Professional Days and expects to experience Brazilian literature and make business during the event. “The first book I read in English was by Paulo Coelho. I think this meeting of professionals is very important not only for business, but also for the exchange of ideas. I am very interested in learning more about the similarities of Brazilian and Arab cultures, especially in terms of children’s and adult literature,” she says.
Colombian distributor Adriana Paredes participates in the Professional Days to prospect publications. “Brazilian books are excellent in terms of content and quality. I work with many children’s works and the visual care you have delights me. Children’s publications should get readers’ attention so they continue reading and you are very good at that,” she said.
The literature editor of FTD Educação, Estevão Andozia, explains that the Professional Days is an opportunity to follow the market production. “Having a space to meet editors from all over the world is essential, because we live from the exchange of content. Just as we like when our books are read and translated abroad, we also need to know what is being done in the market. This exchange is essential,” he says.
With the objective of expanding the national publishing market and bringing Brazilian readers closer to the Arab literature, Sharjah is the guest of honor of this year’s edition. The city-state is a great center of education and culture of the United Arab Emirates, elected by UNESCO as the book’s world capital in 2019.
Brazilian Publishers interviewed Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of Sharjah Book Authority. Check his expectations for the event by clicking here.
