Fernando pretends to smoke to have an excuse to get out of the office and get some time outdoors. On the ground floor of the building where he works, he meets Bruno, a former school-age colleague, for whom he feels an ill-concealed envy. How can the friend always be so comfortable? They talk about life and about a semi-abandoned project of Fernando: leaving São Paulo and moving to João Pessoa. Amid the talk, Bruno ends up introducing him to Laura, a young actress to whom Fernando projects everything he would like to be: an artist, free, out-of-place, in a good way. The book narrates the relationship of the two, through the intercalation of different times and spaces: confronting their totally disparate life experiences and their anguishes that, nevertheless, are so similar; or constructing the plans, together, to flee from São Paulo to Paraíba, leaving the work, restrictions and life behind.
