The rights of children’s book “A Mancha” (The spill), written by Guilherme Gontijo Flores and illustrated by Daniel Kondo, were acquired by South Korean company Hanulim Publishing, and the deal had the intermediation of local agency The Choice Maker Korea. The book is expected to be released in the South Korean market still in the first semester of 2021.

The title was originally published by FTD Educação, a member of Brazilian Publishers – an industry project fostering the exports of Brazilian editorial content by means of a partnership between the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil). Editorial Norma, from Colombia, also bought the rights to publish the book in that country.

“A Mancha” is a light and poetic narrative for children about the story of an environmental accident that occurred in Brazil, in which an oil spill hit the beaches of the Northeast and part of the Southeast of the country in 2019. And so, the book helps children to think about the importance of caring for nature.

FTD in South Korea

This is the second title from FTD arriving in South Korea this year. As published here, “Além da Chuva” (Beyond the rain) also had its rights bought in the Asian country, by publishing house Spoonbook.

“It’s great having another title from FTD Educação published in South Korea as a result of an intensive work of increasing our network of international partners. Similarly to what happened with “Além da chuva”, a book that has been recently released in Korea, we have strengthened ties with Asian agents in order to promote a book of universal interest that had drawn the attention of Hanulim. Now Brazilian editorial contents are being disseminated in Asia”, says Tassia Oliveira, international relations assistant of FTD Educação.
